Vision Korea

The Korean Ministry of Education mandated the improvement of English speaking abilities of students and teachers in Korea through cultural exchanges and improved English teaching methods. Myungsun Church and other ministry partners are using this mandate to share the good news of Christ and to bring all Koreans into the Kingdom of God. Their desire is to bring American English to the youth of their community and church. Myungsun recognizes that Koreans are very influenced by American culture and so having American English taught to them is an effective way to reach them with the gospel.

South Korea sends out the second largest number of Christian missionaries in the entire world. Myungsun leaders desire to grow the Body of Christ between the USA and South Korea, the two largest mission-sending countries in the world, as a way to exhibit Christian unity, develop global Christian leaders, and bring the gospel to the rest of the world.

In 2010, Warm Beach Camp joined with Myungsun Church (MSC) in Suwon, South Korea, in a sister ministry relationship. MSC reaches out to their community through English ministry and conducts a summer English Camp in South Korea. In addition, they send a group of English students to the Pacific Northwest each summer for an English immersion and cultural experience in the USA.

Warm Beach Camp assisted MSC with their English Camp conducting games, crafts, songs, and helping wherever needed. In addition, MSC seeks to raise up global Christian leaders among their young people, which is the same goal WBC has for the teens and young adults we serve. WBC sent a team of 15 young people to South Korea in July and they were paired up with MSC students for an experience of cultural exposure, tourism, education about mission work in Korea, and spiritual formation. WBC and their Korean partners worked together at the English Camp forging meaningful cross-cultural relationships.

WBC also partnered with Pyungsan Church in the southern region of Korea to conduct similar day camps as part of that church’s outreach to their community.

In addition to WBC teams going to South Korea, Myungsun Church sends a group of 35 youth ages 11-17 along with adult leaders to the Pacific Northwest each year. In this, they partner with Lamb’s Gate Church in Federal Way. Lamb’s Gate coordinates the itinerary for the MSC group and one week of that experience is a youth camp at Warm Beach Camp. WBC also recruits families to provide two day long home-stay experiences for MSC youth.

In 2012, WBC is again sending a team of 15-20 people to help MSC with their English Camp and Pyungsan Church with several day camp. In addition to providing general programming, WBC has been asked to provide English teachers to conduct the language studies during the weeklong English Camp.

Team members are selected based on an application and screening interview. A team is comprised of up to eight boys and eight girls with a male & female adult chaperone respectively and at least one WBC leadership person acting as Team Leader. Team members meet a minimum of 4-6 times prior to departure for spiritual and cultural preparation as well as team-building and program planning. English instructors may be additional participants and may, if they choose, only stay in Korea for the one week of English Camp.
