Show Christ’s love by being a caring presence in the lives of campers with intellectual and developmental disabilities during the day and personally experience camp in the evenings. A great way to serve the community in Snohomish County and have a blast while doing it! Volunteer for one to four weeks at Camp SunSparrow in the summer, and/or for SunSparrow Days in the Spring and Fall. Opportunity to earn community service hours and internship/practicum credit may be available.

*Warm Beach Camp is a DSHS/DDA-approved facility.

Serve, Stay, and Care

Where faith and fun take flight!

This unique camp experience brings a special blessing to volunteers!

Teens and adults ages 16 and older are invited to volunteer for one to five weeks of Day Camp this summer and for SunSparrow Days in May, June, and September. Training is provided, so no experience of working with people with disabilities is needed.

Open to groups and individuals, ages 16+ (*contact us about age exceptions.)
Participate for 1 to 5 weeks of summer Day Camp
Stay overnight or commute (*must be coordinated before arrival.)
Meals and lodging are provided
Background check required
Earn community service hours, internship credit, and practicum experience hours. (*must be coordinated before arrival.)

Camp SunSparrow Staff/ Volunteer Sample Schedule

Subject to change

Monday: Training and team building are provided each Monday before the week of camp begins.

Tuesday-Friday:

7:00am:

Prepare for the day, staff and volunteers meeting, morning devotionals, and breakfast

9:00am-3:30pm:

Lead or co-lead a small group of campers through program activities (swimming, climbing tower, mini golf, outdoor games and activities, arts and crafts, devotionals, and more!)
Hospitality Team: a select group of additional volunteers will assist with camper arrival, lunch, and end of the day transitions.

3:30pm-4:30pm:

Camp staff and volunteer debrief and clean up

Camp After Hours:

Enjoy evenings filled with faith, fun, and fellowship. Activities include: worship, devotionals, campfires, recreational activities, and laughter of course!
Dinner is provided. Commuting volunteers are welcome to stay for dinner and participate in evening activities but depart before quiet hours.
(*Please let the Director know before your week of camp if you plan to stay for dinners, so we can plan enough food for everyone.)

Small Group Leaders (ages 16 and up)

Camp SunSparrow is a day camp program that utilizes the support of volunteers to serve adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Volunteers will:

• Lead or co-lead a small group of campers through day camp activities (including pool time, so bring your swimsuit!)

• Keep campers safe

• Communicate with campers and help them to feel comfortable and welcome at camp

• Some volunteers, who are willing and 18 or older, may be asked to assist campers in the restroom as needed and according to our health and safety protocols.

• Communicate with parents when they pick their camper up each day

• Attend staff and volunteer meetings and training sessions

Hospitality Team

A small group of volunteers who are not able to stay all day are needed in 1-3 hour blocks to assist with camper arrival, lunch, end-of-the-day transitions, and special activities

Community Hours, Internships, and Practicum Credit

Interested in earning community service hours or intern/practicum credit? We would love to help!

Volunteering to work with adults with disabilities under the guidance of the Developmental Disabilities Ministries Coordinator is a great way to gain experience while serving the community.
Internship/Practicum credit must be approved by the Volunteer Coordinator and organized by the volunteer and their academic advisor.
It is the sole responsibility of the volunteer to coordinate and track internship requirements.

Adriene Duguay

Developmental Disabilities Ministries Coordinator

Adriene Duguay is passionate about serving individuals with disabilities. She graduated from Trinity Western University with a BA in Psychology and is thrilled to now play a part in a ministry that serves adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through camp experiences. In her free time, she enjoys playing ice hockey, going on adventures with her dog, and writing.

Tori Raiguel

Warm Beach Camp Volunteer Coordinator

In 2022 Tori began serving as the Volunteer Coordinator for Warm Beach Camp Ministries. She has been part of the Warm Beach Camp staff since 2015. Tori has a heart for Christ-centered hospitality. As Volunteer Coordinator, she gets excited about getting to know people and connecting their passions and gifts with the needs of the organization. When not at work she loves to be outdoors kayaking, gardening, or walking with friends.
