Finding Sacred Spaces

In today’s fast-paced world, anxiety can easily overwhelm us, leaving us feeling depleted and disconnected. Between work pressures, family responsibilities, and societal expectations, finding a peaceful place to slow down and quiet the mind can seem nearly impossible. However, there are sacred spaces—places where the noise fades, and we can reconnect with God and find peace.

Where God’s Presence Feels Near

One of the Warm Beach Camp staff members shared, “For over three decades, one of my most cherished sacred spaces has been the Prayer Chapel at Warm Beach Camp (even before I worked here). It’s more than just a quiet place—it’s a spiritual sanctuary where I can sit in God’s presence and find solace. In this sacred space, the stresses of life dissipate, and His peace calms my fears. The Prayer Chapel at Warm Beach has been a place of spiritual renewal, where I can reflect on God’s goodness and sovereignty in my life.”

Nature as a Spiritual Sanctuary

For another staff member, finding sacred space comes from connecting with the vastness of the ocean. “I’ve spent much of my life along the beautiful NW coast, where I’ve always found a deep sense of peace while gazing out at the endless water. Standing by the ocean, feeling the sand beneath my feet and listening to the rhythmic waves, I am reminded of God’s power and the fleeting nature of my own worries.

Just like at the ocean, Warm Beach provides this calming connection with nature. Whether it’s sitting on the marble tables at the top of the amphitheater and gazing at the Puget Sound, or walking the wooded trails toward the water’s edge, these spaces allow me to quiet my mind and draw near to God. I’ve found that nature—whether by the water or among the trees—can be a powerful reminder of God’s presence in our lives.”

The Power of Nature to Calm Anxiety

“Being surrounded by the busyness of the world often leaves me feeling heavy-hearted and lacking clarity. During these times, I seek refuge in nature,” shared a third Warm Beach staff member. “One of my favorite places is a tree on my parents’ property that I’ve lovingly named the “prayer tree.” The moment I step beneath its outstretched branches, I feel an overwhelming sense of God’s love and peace. Here, I surrender my thoughts and concerns, trusting in His greatness.

This prayer tree has become a sacred space where I feel the nearness of God, and I leave with a lighter heart and a refreshed spirit. Whether I’m sitting by the ocean or under the branches of a tree, nature provides a sanctuary where I can quiet my mind, reflect on God’s goodness, and find renewal for my soul.”

Creating Your Own Sacred Space

In a world that’s always moving, it’s vital to create moments of stillness and connection. Whether it’s through nature, a quiet Prayer Chapel, or another sacred space, taking time to be still and reflect can bring much-needed peace and clarity. Find a place where you can sit in the presence of God, let go of your worries, and experience His comforting love.

Finding Peace in Sacred Spaces

When life becomes overwhelming, turning to sacred spaces—whether they are natural retreats like the ocean or a cherished spot like the Warm Beach prayer chapel— these spaces can help calm anxiety and restore spiritual peace. Nature and stillness offer a path back to clarity, where we can hear God’s voice and experience His love more deeply. Remember, no matter where you are, sacred spaces are often found within, where we can always connect with the presence of God.

Being the Presence of Christ

“Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. As slaves of Christ, do the will of God with all your heart. Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will reward each one of us for the good we do, whether we are slaves or ...
