Hands On Outdoor Experiences

Across the 278 acres of land at Warm Beach Camp, there are wondrous little nooks and crannies teeming with life, just waiting to be explored! From a saltwater marsh to the upland forest and the bluffs that are perfectly designed to ease a bird’s flight; the biodiversity is endless! With notebooks in hand, a quizzical eye, and curious minds, children step into a world of infinite possibilities!

The Outdoor School Program at Warm Beach Camp is actively changing lives through student-led, hands-on outdoor experiences. A very important philosophy in Outdoor School is “I notice. I wonder. It reminds me of…” Through this three-step process, children are encouraged to heighten their observation skills, navigate the world around them with curiosity, and connect what they learn to their own lives.

Within this explorative program at Warm Beach Outdoor School there is no cognitive starting point, so every child can participate regardless of intellectual or developmental disabilities. This program naturally lends to inclusivity. Every child becomes a scientist, reinforcing and fueling a child’s imagination and problem-solving abilities!

The dedicated and passionate Outdoor School instructors guide students through social and emotional learning while they are immersed in creation, observing and gaining an understanding of the ecosystem. Students are encouraged to follow their interests and have the freedom to have a say in what they are learning. This builds confidence, and positive relationships are established with their peers and trusted adults.

Children become fully engaged in the enriching experiences Outdoor School has to offer. When children are allowed the time and space to connect with themselves and the beauty of creation, transformation happens. Warm Beach Camp is welcoming 11 schools to the Outdoor School Program over the next two months!

While partnering with local schools, the core of our Christian faith is still at work. Warm Beach Outdoor School program’s foundation lies in being good stewards of the land that God has entrusted to us and in exhibiting Christ-like hospitality through genuine welcoming care. Erin Simmons, the Outdoor Schools Manager, expressed, “We like to live by the quote ‘living a life of love and service, as modeled by Jesus, is a powerful way to share the gospel, and that words are only necessary when needed.’ The Holy Spirit is at work all around us. Places like Warm Beach, you can feel the presence of God the moment you are on these grounds.”
