Much joy and celebration at Special Needs Summer Camps
Standing back and watching the first day of any of our Special Friends Day Camp, summer camps for special needs adults, makes you wish you could go. From the minute a camper arrives they are celebrated, the way we all wish we were, with abashed enthusiasm and acceptance. Lines of campers and buddies on either side cheer the arrival of every camper. Every day holds a celebration of some kind, anywhere, from a un-birthday party, to a live concert, recreation activities and more. Special Friends Day Camp is a celebration of life. It broadens the edges of one’s experience, whether it be camper or volunteer “buddy.”
Margret “Sparkles” Spears has been involved in Special Friends Day Camp for the past four years and said, “It is a total celebration and affirmation of who the campers are, and the buddies experience so much joy during their time at Special Friends Day Camp.”
Special Friends Day Camp is also a celebration of friendship and community. Warm Beach Camp in Stanwood, WA, has been hosting Special Friends Day Camps for the past nine years and many of the campers and volunteers have been participating from day one. Campers look forward to seeing their camp friends all year long.
This summer, Warm Beach Camp will once again be hosting five Special Friends Day Camps and two Overnight Camps. Come, join the celebration and volunteer this summer – you too, may be filled with a special joy.
