Faithful volunteers keep grounds looking great

Volunteer gardeners Camille McDugald, Jean Bach and Vera Sagan.Have you looked at your yard recently? Did you notice spring is here? Most of us have started up the lawn mower more than once this season, and if you haven’t tended to those flower beds, the weeds have already grown to monstrous proportions. Now, imagine over 200 acres of lawns, flower beds, berm after berm, and forests woven through with miles of trails and you have the scope of grounds keeping ...

Horsemanship Camp enriches a camper’s life

Warm Beach Summer Horsemanship Camp aims to give campers a fun experience while learning and improving their horsemanship skills. The week is packed with horse related activities such as lessons, trail rides, showmanship, and vaulting. Campers also groom, saddle and care for their horse all week, giving them the experience of owning a horse. We believe that riding and caring for a horse develops life-skills of responsibility, faithfulness, diligence and communication. In order to offer maximum value in riding instruction, ...

Refresh Women’s Event – “Transforming, just WOW, life changing.”

Three hundred women gathered at Warm Beach Camp in Stanwood, WA, the first weekend in May for a time to get away and be refreshed. And what an amazing time it was! Women of all ages moved head-to-head with each other in deep conversation, praying and crying together. Lots ...

At Summer Camp, counselors make the difference

When you think of “Camp,” what images float through your mind? The outdoors, games, crafts, s’mores? More than anything else, what makes Summer Camp fun and special are the people. Staff create the safe, fun, engaging atmosphere that impact campers. Over and over, the answer to the question, “What is your camper’s favorite memory about camp?” is, “Counselors.” Camp leadership recognize the sacred trust we are extended by the parents of campers. Parents want their children to have a safe ...

The program had been growing by leaps and bounds since 2006 and now averaged over 50 campers plus buddies per camp. Laurie was now on a path to help each camper better understand and know Jesus Christ. One problem the Special Friends Day Camp had consistently ...

WILL you be a good steward?

If you are like me, and probably you are, I try very hard to manage my resources. As a Christian, being a good steward of my money and other resources is a spiritual responsibility. I wouldn’t dream of handing that responsibility over to someone else!Yet, many people have not prepared their will. Without a will, the state court will appoint someone to make all the decisions for you, often ignoring your important preferences. Even with a will, your estate will ...

Sisterhood time and renewal of soul

In January of 2007, Barbara Bird was diagnosed with breast cancer. Barbara recalls, “I said to my doctor, ‘yesterday I couldn’t even spell “breast cancer” and now I have it!’” After Barbara was diagnosed, she underwent surgery, chemo and radiation. Because these treatments took such a toll on Barbara’s immune system, she ended up in the hospital numerous times. In March of 2007, Barbara underwent her last treatment of radiation. By this time, all of her hair had fallen out. ...

One rainy day in 2012 changed the course of Special Friends Camps

One rainy summer day in 2012 changed the course of Special Friends Day Camps, a camp for developmentally disabled adults, permanently. It was clearly going to be impossible to cram over 50 soggy Special Friends campers and their buddies into the tiny Pines building near the front entrance of the Camp but every one needed to get under cover. Laurie Fertello, Disabilities Ministries Director, quickly discovered that the Program Center Auditorium happened to be available that day. The Auditorium was ...

Get away to retreat and reconnect

You know you and your group need a retreat. A time to plan, brainstorm, and connect. Sometimes you have to completely disconnect to really connect. What does that mean? Well, imagine having a romantic dinner date in your own dining room. The table is set with beautiful flowers, candlelight, and a delicious meal. Sounds great, doesn’t it? That is until you hear the noises of your children with the babysitter in the playroom. Or the doorbell, your cellphone, or that ...
