Summer Camp fun and adventure – To the King!

Lift up your shield as we welcome you to Tales of the Kingdom, the 2010 theme at Warm Beach Summer Camps.  Tales of the Kingdom combines story and history, drawing campers into a thrilling Medieval journey full of fun summer camp activities.   Campers and counselors begin their week getting to know one another on a deeper level, growing together through a process of team building. Why vaulting rides on trust

by Mark Cutshall Imagine standing on the back of a young teenage girl riding a 2,000-lb. horse cantering in a 60-ft radius circle while holding your stance, arms outstretched, for four, five, six, seven, eight seconds. Whoooa. During this actual move, one she’s done countless times, 15-year-old Alexandria Jaynes confesses, “As a flyer, I have no control of what my riding partners (“bases”) are going to do or even of the horse.” Talk about trust. It’s what Alexandria has learned ...

Under their model, every summer camp activity is taken apart and adapted to meet the needs of each individual camper. The flagship site, Camp Barnabas, currently serves over 1,300 campers, with a wide range of special needs, each summer. “For 15 years we have watched what allowing someone to understand ...

Project Updates – June 2010

We have several projects currently underway at the Camp: We are working on a fencing set-back project at the stables to keep our herd away from the streams and help protect the environment. This work is partially funded by the Snohomish Conservation District. Now that the Wastewater Treatment Plant is processing the effluent to a reuse standard, we will be able to use the water for irrigation in the pastures during the warmer months of the year. Irrigation equipment has ...

Help a Child Go to Camp This Summer

With summer right around the corner, registrations are now coming in for the summer youth camps. It also means that we are receiving requests for help through the Kids 2 Camp program. Without financial assistance, some of the children and youth who will be coming this summer would be unable to experience their week at camp. A number of these kids come from churches and social service agencies who are working with at-risk youth. For many of these kids, a ...

Curtis and Ed McDowell - Warm Beach Camp's youngest donor

Meet Our Youngest Donor!

Recently, a letter went out from the Camp sharing the need for some new refrigerators to meet new health regulations the County is instituting. A number of people have responded to this appeal, but one donation was hand-delivered by the donor to Ed McDowell, our executive director. Curtis Willson, the seven-year-old son of Free Methodist missionaries, Ryan and Jen Willson, brought his gift to help with the project — his entire savings — and gave it for new refrigerators. In ...

Say Yes to Volunteer Opportunities for Special Needs Camps

by Laurie Fertello I wish you could have been there when I had the opportunity recently, to tell two Mothers that their adult sons could come to Special Friends Day Camp!  You would have seen the longing on their faces turn to joy and the tears in their eyes when they finally realized a dream come true for their adult children! Saying “YES” to people who are so often told “NO”, is a great privilege of mine and I do ...

Is This Myth at WBC Busted?

There is a running joke at Warm Beach Camp that once you work or volunteer here, you end up coming back over and over again for the rest of your life. Scott Brandenberger, one of our current volunteers, is evidence that this may be more than just a myth. Rod Brown, former Associate Director at WBC, recruited Scott from Greenville College in Illinois to be a summer staff counselor in 2003. “I didn’t know anyone when I got here.” said ...
