How many volunteers does it take to change a light bulb?

LOC Vol Pic 4478Okay, so it is an old joke. I don’t even know how many it would take, but I would guess one. We have a lot of very talented volunteers!

I do know how many volunteers it takes to put on The Lights of Christmas. We need between 120 and 160 each night. There are about 2,750 spots to fill! More than 825 volunteers filled all those jobs last year. That is a lot of volunteers!

It takes people serving as parking attendants, costumed characters, greeters, ticket sellers, Toy Shop “elves,” hosts, security help, and more. The volunteers provide the smiles and warm hospitality that the event is best known for. Plus, the volunteers get to be a part of an amazing event. What better way to experience The Lights than being on the team that puts it on!

We have some exciting new volunteer opportunities this year during The Lights of Christmas.  We are adding a Light Maze and need up to four volunteers each night to staff it. We also have a fun new Cookie Decorating Station located in Tinhorn Town. If you are creative and good with people, you might enjoy volunteering to help people decorate Christmas cookies. How fun is that?

We also need about 150 volunteers to come to Thanksgiving Working Weekend, November 27 to 30, and help decorate and put on all the finishing touches. Then, after The Lights closes, we need another 150 volunteers to help with Take-Down, to get the decorations taken down and put away. That will happen January 2 and 3. Whew! Are you out of breath yet?

As a volunteer, you can share the hope and joy of the Christmas season with the thousands of people attending The Lights. We have a volunteer task that will work for you!

If you are interested in helping before, during, or after the event, you can get more information or sign-up at our Volunteer Web Page, or give Jessica Wilson, Volunteer Coordinator, a call at (360) 312-3417. She can answer your questions, and help you sign up. For the best chance of getting the volunteer assignment you want, sign up as soon as possible!
