On the road again

You may think that living on the road, hopping from town to town, and picking up odd jobs sounds like the life of a vagabond, a long-haul truck driver or the kid who wants to run away and join the circus! But you’d be surprised to learn this is a fairly accurate description of the lives of lots of retired senior adults!

A number of the volunteers who come to Warm Beach Camp are retirees who travel in their RVs as participants in several different senior volunteer programs, assisting Christian ministries around the country with all kinds of projects, from construction and maintenance to sewing, cleaning, and office help.

Sowers_300This past year, Warm Beach Camp has been blessed with volunteers from three amazing organizations: MMAP (Mobile Missionary Assistance Program), SOWER (Servants on Wheels Every Ready) and Hard Hats for Christ. Besides these, there have been a number of other RV volunteers not affiliated with any organization who have come to help.

RV volunteers are unique in that they bring their own housing and become part of the Camp staff for an extended period of time. They work alongside our staff, providing valuable services that are a huge blessing to the Camp. They are constantly available, flexible, dependable, and fun to work with! There are so many projects that just would not get done without the labor provided by these wonderful volunteers.

They also become part of the Camp family, joining us for special events, participating in potlucks, game nights and other activities. They often tell us that serving at the Camp has touched their lives, too!

When it is time for the RV volunteers to pull out they leave a lasting mark on the ministry, through the projects they completed, and by the impact they have had on our staff. We often joke that they will wake up on the morning they are scheduled to leave only to find their tires missing. They always go with our wish that they will return one day.

Thank you to all of our RV volunteers who have contributed a piece of their lives to the Camp over this past year. You will always be a part of the Camp family!
