Project Updates – May 2017

Here is the latest news on the Camp’s current projects:

  • CLChapel2417aThe Cedar Lodge Chapel renovation project is just days away from being completed! In the last six weeks, a new ceiling and lighting have been installed, and a new roof put on. This will complete the three phases of renovation in Cedar Lodge that were part of the Embracing the Vision Campaign.
  • The new playground equipment that will replace the old “Big Toy” playground structure will be installed on May 19 and 20. The final gift to complete the funding for this project was recently received, allowing this project to proceed. The new commercial-grade playground equipment is designed for children aged 5 to 12, and has a capacity of up to 50 youngsters at a time. The equipment includes slides, climbing apparatus, as well as ground level elements that children with mobility challenges can also enjoy.
  • A massive lighting replacement project is underway in buildings all over the grounds. 3,000 lights are being replaced with energy efficient LED’s as part of an efficiency grant from the Snohomish County PUD. This project will make a significant difference in the Camp’s energy use. The project is due to be completed by the end of May.
  • There are only two rooms in Cascadian Lodge left to be memorialized in preparation for a major revitalize project in this facility. So far, 28 of the 30 rooms have been underwritten. New carpeting has been laid down in the Lobby and hallways, and a new fireplace insert installed in the Lobby. More work in the Lobby is scheduled for this fall, and renovations of the sleeping rooms will begin early next year. If you would like information about memorializing a room for a loved one, or funding a room in honor of a significant person or persons in your life, please contact Nancy Nelson at the Camp.
  • The new sidewalk from Cedar Lodge Chapel to the Program Center is scheduled to be completed in May. This project will replace broken concrete sidewalk sections, create a wider sidewalk to Program Center, remove the old snack shop building, and re-position the metal picnic pavilion.
  • New State Health Department regulations are requiring water metering on all private water systems by the end of 2017. The new meters have been installed over the last three months. The Camp manages the water system that supplies water for the Camp, the Warm Beach Senior Community, and the Free Methodist Church.
  • New flooring has been installed in Whistler Mini-Lodge, and is scheduled to be replaced in Glacier Mini-Lodge. Crews have also painted the interiors of Maple Center, and Whistler and Glacier Mini-Lodges. Now they are painting the interiors of the W-Bar-B Cabins, and the exterior doors in Olympic View Lodge and the Program Center.

I tried to coax her into calmness with gentleness and patience, but she still didn’t fully trust me. When ...
