Servanthood with Joy!

We love our volunteers! Judy Lang has been investing in Warm Beach Camp for the last eight years as an on-site, full-time volunteer.  She retired in 2015, planning to explore the Northwest in her RV. Though enjoying her newfound freedom, she yearned to belong to a community committed to a purpose larger than leisure. While camping near Mt. Rainier in 2016, Judy had a divine encounter with a woman over a cup of coffee that changed her future trajectory.

Her new acquaintance mentioned using her RV to volunteer at Christian camps. Judy was intrigued by the idea, and when the woman, who has become a dear friend, mentioned Warm Beach Camp, she heeded the call! A few weeks later, Judy emailed the Camp and was invited to volunteer at The Lights of Christmas, which began the next day! She quickly found what she was searching for. Judy explained, “For me, servanthood with joy is the unmistakable mark of the Kingdom; I see that combination in so many at Warm Beach Camp. Every week presents new opportunities to serve.”

Judy thrives on variety and has found her gifts and skills welcomed at Warm Beach Camp. Throughout her time here, she has lent her expertise to create a residence numbering system for the Fire Department in case of emergencies, helped research and write grant proposals, and recruited donation items within the local community for the Kids 2 Camp Auction.

She was asked to work in the Mail Room in 2017, which she currently leads; she regularly facilitates Outdoor School classes for guest groups, readies housing for short-term staff and missionaries, and with other volunteers, fully renovated the ever-popular mini golf course seven years ago. When she and a fellow volunteer took on this endeavor, it took nearly 150 hours to refurbish, and it quickly became a labor of love! Judy is part of the yearly restoration efforts of the course, and it brings her immense joy to see the guests, staff, and neighbors next door in the Senior Community enjoy the mini-golf course.

The love, care, and integrity that Judy brings to each project result from her great faith. Judy explained, “At Warm Beach Camp, we say, ‘Life changes here,’ and it’s true. In Christ, God is redeeming people’s stories, including their pain and losses. People under stress find respite, hope, and belonging. This is true not only for our guests but also for staff and volunteers. When we see others through God’s eyes — as reconciled, worthy of honor, and full of potential for joy and freedom — we are led to provide the best hospitality and highest quality experiences we can.”

Judy embodies Christ-centered stewardship, and since her arrival over eight years ago, Warm Beach Camp has been grateful, overjoyed, and amazed by the hard work and love she routinely pours into this space.

The Ministry at The Lights of Christmas

Every year, our entire staff pauses normal operations to focus on preparing for and hosting this magical event. Whether it’s during all-staff workdays for setup and takedown or working together to serve ...

Relationships

“Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”  Matthew 22:37-39 NLT  One of our primary challenges in life is that we look for everything but relationships to address the core issues of life.  Law, structure, rules, knowledge, pleasure, success, and self-determination are a good starter list of how we distract ourselves ...
