To Korea with love

KoreaTeam2017The Church in South Korea is inspiring. With a fraction of the population of America, it is the second largest missionary-sending country in the world, just behind the U.S.! Korean Christians are some of the most passionate of any in the world.

Nevertheless, only 30% of Koreans express faith in Christ. Korean Christians are working hard to reach their fellow citizens. One of the effective means of reaching Koreans with the Gospel is through English language learning.

Myungsun Presbyterian Church, just outside of Seoul, has an extensive outreach through English ministry. The key to their success is an annual summer English Camp in South Korea and a Summer American Immersion experience here in the Pacific Northwest. Warm Beach Camp partners with Myungsun to send a team of 10-20 American youth and adults to South Korea to work with them in ministry. And each summer, 30 Korean young people attend a week of Warm Beach summer camp as part of their American cultural experience.

This year, a twelve-person Warm Beach Camp Korea ministry team served in South Korea August 1-15, 2017. They were joined by 20 Korean young people who rapidly immersed the team in Korean culture building effective teamwork. Once oriented, the team joined the Korean hosts in ministry to the homeless, holding the English day camp at a local church and a week-long English Camp. The experience is truly a ministry immersion with our Korean hosts.

English Camp combines English language learning with camp-style games, crafts, music, and sports. Along with ministry to elementary-age campers, Korean and American High School students enter a leadership track where they will assist with the camp and spend time in biblical leadership studies led by the U.S. Team Pastor.

The Lord always reaches deeply into the hearts of His people as we go and engage in the work to which He calls us. Saying “Yes” to Jesus when He calls us to go is the first step in a journey of transformation.

Quietly Faithful: Remembering Gary Kocher

Throughout Warm Beach Camp’s history, certain individuals have come along who perfectly encapsulate what it is to be a servant of Christ. Gary Kocher was one of those people. He dedicated his life to humbly glorifying God, serving others, and diligently carrying out the work that was entrusted to him. Let us now revisit the impact that Gary has had on Warm Beach Camp (WBC). Gary Kocher was a volunteer youth leader in the Pacific Northwest Conference of the Free ...

A Different Place for Different Needs

If you walk around the Warm Beach Camp (WBC) grounds during a specific week in the spring, there’s a good chance you’ll hear beautiful music pouring out of almost every meeting room. The Northwest Big Band takes over much of the main conference center grounds and floods the space with their sweet melodies during their time at WBC. “It’s so peaceful here,” One of the group’s leaders, Kate Erb, said, “so our participants can focus on their music and their ...

Living at Peace

“God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.” Matthew 5:9 NLT God blesses us for doing the work of living at peace with ourselves and others. Peace reflects the character of God. A young woman named Skyler shared a video on the You Version Bible App on this verse. She likened the quality of peace as being one thing that shows us as being children of God. She went on to the ...
