When individuals are welcomed into an environment full of connection, inclusivity, and the love of Christ, transformation happens! They become active participants in the world around them and are reminded of their true worth.

Camp SunSparrow is carefully constructed to help individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities build self-confidence and develop closer relationships with the Lord. Campers are encouraged to recognize their unique strengths and are allowed the time and space to share those with the group. Adriene Duguay, the Developmental Disabilities Ministries Coordinator, expressed, “The Disabilities Ministry has been entrusted to me, and I want to handle this program with intentionality and care. I am grateful and honored to provide campers with a space where they feel welcomed and contribute positively to the world around them.”

Last summer, a group of campers acted quickly to rally around, support, and show compassion to one another. Each time a camper became frustrated or overwhelmed, the entire group would offer words of encouragement, give hugs, and help their friend feel safe to rejoin the festivities. Acts of kindness like these have staff eagerly anticipating this upcoming Camp SunSparrow season to see what sweet displays of friendship will emerge!

Camp SunSparrow is expanding from two to four weeks this year! Here are the dates:

• July 29- August 1
• August 5-8,
• August 11-15
• August 18-22

We are seeking volunteers who feel led and have a heart to disciple and serve adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Small group leaders and hospitality team members are needed. For inquiries, click here.

While Adriene diligently works on setting up for the joyous 4-weeks of Camp SunSparrow, a unique one-day event is happening this coming week! Aside from Camp SunSparrow, the Disabilities Ministry also consists of SunSparrow Days. They are one-day events throughout the year during which campers are welcomed back for a fun and faith-filled day. SunSparrow Days also allow individuals to reconnect with their Camp SunSparrow friends and be drawn back into community. The SunSparrow Days happening this year are:

• June 9
• September 29

Adriene expressed, “I am so thankful for the SunSparrow Days. The hardest part of my job is not being out among the campers. The first part of the year is a lot of planning. But with SunSparrow Days intermingled throughout the year, it is beneficial not only for those the camp serves, but also for me! I always look forward to creating connections with new campers and building stronger relationships with returning campers.”
