Where one meets God
For more than 20 years, Bishop Blanchet High School has come to Warm Beach Camp for their Kairos retreats; “Kairos” meaning God’s time. These retreats happen multiple times each year, offering Juniors and Seniors intentional space to deepen their relationship with God through listening, discussion, sacrament, prayer, and moments of rest and reflection.
When students arrive, they are greeted by a team of staff and student leaders. One of the first things they are asked to do is place their cell phones in a bag for the duration of the retreat. It is a simple act, but a powerful one; an intentional step toward being fully present to God and to one another. I love the purposefulness with which they enter this sacred time.
Each morning begins bright and early with the sound of leaders playing music and knocking on doors to make sure everyone is awake and ready for the day ahead. The students then head over to the dining room, where the Food Services team welcomes them with a hot meal to start their day in preparation for what lies ahead.
Throughout the retreat, several students are invited to speak on themes such as Knowing Yourself, Knowing God, Being Christian, and Love in Action. One of the most moving moments is when each student speaker is surrounded by the leadership team and covered in prayer before sharing with their peers. Students then gather in small groups to discuss these topics more deeply, creating space for honest conversation and spiritual growth.
When they are not in worship or small groups, students love spending time playing games in the lobby, tossing a football in front of Cedar Lodge, or exploring the grounds. It is inspiring to watch community and trust form so naturally, away from technology and centered instead on God’s Word and genuine connection. It is such a great joy to witness how God is at work in the lives of the Bishop Blanchet students who retreat here on this holy ground.
I am deeply grateful for the many hands that make it possible for Bishop Blanchet High School to retreat well. Our Guest Services team ensures they have everything they need. Our Accommodations team prepares clean, welcoming spaces. Our Maintenance team keeps the grounds and buildings in excellent condition. And our Food Services team provides nourishing meals that help fuel their time here. Each of these pieces is essential in creating an environment where groups like Bishop Blanchet High School can encounter God and experience transformation.
Thank you to our volunteers and donors who help make this ministry possible. Your support allows us to keep clear the path to the Cross so that students, leaders, and guests of all ages can meet God in this place.
