Lamb’s Gate 2010

Caroline Kulper, WBB #204July 25-31 Where do I begin… there is so much I want to say and so much I can explain about this past week. Cabin 9 was amazing! There was a definite cultural barrier between the Lamb’s Gate girls and the others but as the week went on they began to communicate better and work as a team, it was amazing watching that transformation. While that was incredible that isn’t what I wish to say. These girls ...

A picture of transformed lives

One camper, Keisha, had been arrested 30 times for fighting. As her counselor asked for forgiveness, Keisha thought, “Chrisy’s a mess, and so am I. If God can forgive her, maybe He can do the same for me.” A year later, Keisha gave her life to Christ. Another girl, Faith, who had just tried to fight another girl in her cabin, was shocked by Chrisy’s sudden transformation from meltdown to peace after praying. She told Chrisy and the other counselor, ...

Can You Stick Around after the Party?

Have you ever been the “last man standing” after your holiday celebration — the one standing at the sink washing a stack of dishes and filling garbage bags with wrapping paper and bows? That’s what it can feel like around the Camp during the Take-Down Event on December 30th and 31st when it is time to begin putting away the decorations from The Lights of Christmas. Just like at your home in January, taking down the Christmas decorations can seem ...

Local Service Club Finds a Place to Serve

When the Stanwood/Camano Rotary Club members first heard about The Lights of Christmas in 1997, little did they know that they would become so involved. Warm Beach’s Development Director, Nancy Nelson, soon recruited her fellow Rotarians to join her in serving as volunteers at The Lights of Christmas. All the years since, up to 20 members and their spouses have assembled to help the first Friday of December. And there is a job for everyone, whether they want to work ...

The Extravaganza Sends a Bunch of Kids to Camp!

On Saturday, August 28, a lot of long-time friends of the Camp, along with a few new ones, showed up to bid against one another as item after item went on the auction block. Clowns, face painting, rides and activities for the kids, and delicious food prepared by the Camp’s Food Service staff, all combined to make for a wonderful, festive atmosphere. By the end of the day, more than $54,000 had been raised for the Camp’s Kids 2 Camp ...

Mailroom volunteers are manning a nerve-center

“I started out working in the mailroom” typifies a common perception of the mailroom clerk being an entry-level job. At Warm Beach Camp, the mailroom is a nerve-center for the organization, handling all the daily incoming and outgoing mail. That can be a couple hundred of pieces in each direction! In the summer, the volume explodes with mail coming in for the 45 or so summer staffers and even more mail for the kids attending camp. It all has to ...

Embracing the Vision Campaign keeps the path clear to the cross

By Nancy Nelson, Development Director It was down to the wire at 11:30 am on December 31, 2009, when the last commitment came through enabling Warm Beach Camp to claim the $490,000 M.J. Murdock grant for the renovation of Cedar Lodge. And yes, I did dance on my desk, as promised. There’s a picture hanging in my office as proof. The Cedar Lodge project is part of the “Embracing the Vision” Campaign begun in 2006. It means that public restrooms ...

Kids 2 Camp Report

With the arrival of summer, kids are now coming for their week of summer camp at Warm Beach. We have been receiving numerous requests for scholarship help to enable kids to come to camp. We are also working with more than 30 churches and social service agencies who work with at-risk youth. In order to bring groups of their kids to camp, we provide matching funds they can use to raise more money in this effort. We are excited about ...

These Two Did More than Clean!

In December 2009, Doug and Dorothy Wiebe ventured down from Abbotsford, BC, to enjoy an evening attending The Lights of Christmas. As they roamed about the event, they bumped into Camp volunteer photographer, Patrick Taylor, who offered them a tour in his brightly decorated golf cart. As he drove, Patrick told them about the volunteer opportunities at WBC. They were intrigued. This past Memorial Day Working Weekend, the Wiebes enthusiastically joined the small army of volunteers helping get the Camp ...
Family Camp Guests 2010

The first horsemanship camp of the season is going on just down the hill at the Stables. The first Day Camp of the year, this one for our Special Friends, is in full swing in the big circus tent. And a brand new team of summer staffers have settled in alongside the year-round staff, ready to serve our campers ...
