Outdoors with Purpose

Spring is the season of Outdoor Education for many schools in the area. During this time, Warm Beach Camp (WBC) is filled with the sounds of fun and discovery coming from the pool, fire circles, and many of the numerous trails through the forest.

The Outdoor Education program at WBC is in the first of its two peak seasons annually (the other being the fall). New and returning schools have selected dates, asked for their “regular” lodging option, selected their preferred curriculum, and prepared their classes for this immersion into experiential learning.

Students get to try unique activities like orienteering, fire building, creating a survival shelter, team building, and so many more. While at WBC, students also grow as a community through sharing cabins, eating in a new place, and seeing each other in situations and conditions that they normally wouldn’t like waking up with crazy morning hair!

The intentional learning and community development builds a positive and safe space for the students that lasts well beyond their time at Camp. Seeing one another in different contexts breaks down pre-existing assumptions and expectations while preparing them to go through the years of school ahead together.

The program is also an amazing tool for the teachers who can use a spring session as a culminating event to build anticipation, or a fall session they can draw from as the academic year goes on.

The Outdoor Education program at WBC prepares all who participate for building a more growth-based, emotionally safe learning environment and it’s a whole lot of fun. The team is ready to educate, what do you want to learn?

I tried to coax her into calmness with gentleness and patience, but she still didn’t fully trust me. When ...
