New program, Camp SunSparrow, opening this summer!

Warm Beach Camp Ministries is delighted and grateful for the opportunity to bring back a beloved program in a new way. Serving persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities has been heavily led by the guidance of God through the decades, and Warm Beach Camp is elated to be serving this community once more!

Through the evolution and restructuring of Special Friends Camp, Camp SunSparrow has emerged as the newest program in a long line of the Disabilities Ministry at Warm Beach Camp. By blending familiar aspects into a newly adapted approach, Camp SunSparrow will fulfill a great need within our local community.

The Developmental Disabilities Ministries Coordinator, Adriene Duguay, has carefully planned out two weeks of Camp fun where each Camp participant will experience purpose, a sense of belonging, and the love of God. Adriene explained, “As a young girl, I struggled with hearing loss and had to learn to navigate the world with my unique challenges and strengths. I have a heart to care for and include individuals who experience challenges related to learning, socializing, and overall development. In developing this new program, Camp SunSparrow, there is a great emphasis on community; I want people to connect and make new friends and reconnect with old friends”.

Camp SunSparrow will consist of two weeks of Day Camp this coming summer. The dates are August 6-9 and August 13-16. This Day Camp offers a space specifically designed for adults (15+) with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities to enjoy a faith-based program with their peers. Camp SunSparrow will be a safe, joyful, and welcoming environment for all who come to experience Camp fun! Camp SunSparrow registration opens May 8.

With summer fast approaching, Camp SunSparrow is seeking volunteers who feel led and have a heart to disciple and serve adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The open positions are:

  • Two individuals ages 18+ to be Camp SunSparrow Team Leaders
  • Individuals (16+) to be Small Group Leaders to Camp participants
  • Hospitality Team members to assist with mealtimes, Camp games and activities, and transition times
  • A Craft Coordinator
  • A Music Leader and Chaplain

I tried to coax her into calmness with gentleness and patience, but she still didn’t fully trust me. When ...
