Meet Adriene, the new Disabilities Ministries Coordinator

Warm Beach Camp is excited to announce Adriene Duguay as the Developmental Disabilities Ministries Coordinator!

Adriene was born and raised in Shoreline, Washington, and graduated with a degree in Psychology from Trinity Western University in British Columbia.

Adriene has diverse work experience ranging from working housekeeping at Seattle Pacific University to working in a hockey shop to, most recently, working at a day camp. No matter where she has found herself, she keeps being called back to working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

As a teenager attending Family Camp here at Warm Beach, she rode her bike past signs about Special Friends Camp and felt God calling her to work for the program. She started as a volunteer and later became a Camp Counselor for two years, working one-on-one with Camp participants. The following summer, she left to go work at a kids’ camp. Every day after work, she found herself in tears, knowing something did not feel right. The Holy Spirit revealed to her it was not the place for her, and after one week, she returned to Special Friends Camp at Warm Beach Camp and moved into a facilitator role. Adriene stated, “The Lord shaped my heart to work with individuals who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. He keeps calling me back to Camp; it’s where I need to be.”

With Adriene spearheading the Disabilities Ministry, she is looking forward to seeing all the smiles on the Camp participants’ faces this summer. She explained, “witnessing people in their element and seeing an individual set a goal that works for them and achieve that goal and to celebrate with them is a powerful thing to be a part of.”

Outside of work, Adriene has played ice hockey for 24 years and is currently on a women’s club team. She enjoys arts and crafts, is part of a book club, and loves training her dog, Nala, a Bernese Mountain dog. At the moment, Adriene is training Nala to pull a draft cart!

Warm Beach Camp is excited to have Adriene part of the team and is highly anticipating the next chapter of the Disabilities Ministry!

Quietly Faithful: Remembering Gary Kocher

Throughout Warm Beach Camp’s history, certain individuals have come along who perfectly encapsulate what it is to be a servant of Christ. Gary Kocher was one of those people. He dedicated his life to humbly glorifying God, serving others, and diligently carrying out the work that was entrusted to him. Let us now revisit the impact that Gary has had on Warm Beach Camp (WBC). Gary Kocher was a volunteer youth leader in the Pacific Northwest Conference of the Free ...

A Different Place for Different Needs

If you walk around the Warm Beach Camp (WBC) grounds during a specific week in the spring, there’s a good chance you’ll hear beautiful music pouring out of almost every meeting room. The Northwest Big Band takes over much of the main conference center grounds and floods the space with their sweet melodies during their time at WBC. “It’s so peaceful here,” One of the group’s leaders, Kate Erb, said, “so our participants can focus on their music and their ...
