Hold on Tight!

Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. Hebrews 10:23-25 NLT

Have you ever been in a situation where someone told you to hold on tight? There is a focus and determination in the words themselves. Encouragement and commitment are part of this phrase. There is also the truth that this challenge which requires a tight grip and strong focus won’t last forever, there is the promise of something better on the other side.

We set out on a river canoeing trip; two dads, two elementary aged sons, and two canoes. It was a beautiful day filled with expectations of fishing and playing on the river. The river was running stronger than normal and part way down the river, one of the canoes became precariously wedged under a snag. My son and I were in a dangerous situation surrounded by rapids and a strong current. The path to safety involved me helping my son jump to safety from the canoe into the arms of the other Dad who had made his way to a huge rock with plenty of room for them both.

This was a “hold on tight” moment. The river was loud and strong. Shouting above the current was necessary. Trust was required as I gripped my son tightly and helped him jump from the canoe into the strong arms of a trusted friend who caught my son in a strong grip of care and protection. We were together. We needed to hang on tight in a tough situation. Creativity, trust, and encouragement were required. It led to a good outcome and a better place. Eventually, the canoe was freed, and we were able to continue on our way.

Navigating a life of following Jesus requires us to hold on tight and stay focused. To live in community with others doing the same, while being creative in matters of love and good works, knowing that God is faithful to deliver on His promises in our lives.

Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep His promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.

God Speaks through Rosie

I have recently been given the opportunity to work with Rosie, one of our newer horses that we are bringing along in training here at the Warm Beach Horsemanship barn. I am always excited to get to know a new horse and their personality. However, it didn’t take long to realize this sweet mare harbored a lot of anxiety and worry. I tried to coax her into calmness with gentleness and patience, but she still didn’t fully trust me. When ...
