God Is My Example

“Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.”

Ephesians 5:1-2 NLT

I have had the privilege of watching generations of families come through Warm Beach Camp and Conference Center. Each generation seeks to be unique, and yet, often times I see the example of the previous generation being expressed by the current generation. An example has been established.  An example is being followed.

In the same way a child follows the example of a parent, you and I, as God’s children, are to follow God’s example. It is incredible to think about.

God’s love is perfect: No human imperfection. No confusing motives.

God’s truth is clear: His forgiveness is abundant.

God’s way of living is: Generous and sacrificial towards others.

God knows how to: Love people and hold to truth.

God is the one you and I are to follow. He is the one you and I are to imitate. My 4-year old grandson recently told me he is going to grow up to be like his dad. Great choice on his part. He is choosing a good example. Even better than his dad, is God. To imitate God requires getting to know Him. Observing how God combines love for all people while holding a standard of truth is an amazing quality to imitate.

Watching God extend forgiveness when is doesn’t seem deserved changes the way we see people.  Living out truth with compassion takes time in God’s presence to stay encouraged in living this way. Setting aside things in our life that are not conducive to imitating God is part of the journey.

As we imitate God, we are changed. As God becomes our example, others see the difference in our lives.

Encouragement:  Think about everything you know about God. Ask Him to be your example. Get to know Him. Study His ways. His example is always good for you. His ways are always life giving to you.

Dear Jesus,

Thank You for inviting us to follow God as our example. Thank You for the opportunity to imitate the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Your example is only good. There is no downside to who You are. Please help us imitate You in a world that needs to know You.

In Jesus name,

Amen

God Speaks through Rosie

I have recently been given the opportunity to work with Rosie, one of our newer horses that we are bringing along in training here at the Warm Beach Horsemanship barn. I am always excited to get to know a new horse and their personality. However, it didn’t take long to realize this sweet mare harbored a lot of anxiety and worry. I tried to coax her into calmness with gentleness and patience, but she still didn’t fully trust me. When ...
