Selfish or Humble – it’s one or the other
Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.
Philippians 2:3 NLT

Let’s be honest with this scripture. Here are two facts:
- You and I are selfish.
- You and I try to impress others.
This is our starting point.
The Apostle Paul is reminding us that there is great joy, community and unity in living and working together. We need to keep pursuing love and concern for each other. We are encouraged to take genuine interest in each other’s lives.
Paul goes on to say that we are to follow Christ’s example. He set aside a privileged position willingly, and came to serve us.
We are to do the same.
Encouragement: Be humble in relationship to others. Instead of focusing on privilege and status, let’s serve each other with great love. Take genuine interest in those around you. Bless someone else today by showing interest in their lives.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank You for not being selfish with Your own life. Thank You for letting go of privilege and status. Thank You for coming to serve and be with us. Help us to do the same with others. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
