The desires of your heart

GordonsSizedIf you had told the Gordon family a year ago they would be living and volunteering at Warm Beach Camp, they probably would have laughed at you. The Gordons were living in a comfortable home not far from the Camp.

Several years ago, Jamie and Steve started talking about the possibility of taking up R.V. living in Steve’s retirement years. The family, including their daughter Amber, has done lots of camping and always enjoyed it. They felt the desire to simplify their lives and to contribute to something bigger than themselves. They never imagined the opportunity would come so soon.

During The Lights of Christmas 2014, Steve was serving alongside another volunteer who was doing the very thing Steve and Jamie had dreamed of — R.V. living and volunteering, and they were doing it at Warm Beach Camp.

In the spring, feeling the Lord’s prompting, Jaime began making some investigative calls to see if Warm Beach would be a good fit for their family, too. By September, their house was on the market and they had begun living and volunteering at Warm Beach Camp.

The Gordons are just getting their start at the Camp but plan on staying for a while. Steve and Jamie both help with grounds keeping and say they feel blessed to be able to serve. They appreciate the physical activity that comes with keeping up a large facility and Amber loves the horses and the wide variety of things to do at Camp. Warm Beach Camp is thrilled to have the Gordons as a part of our volunteer family.

I tried to coax her into calmness with gentleness and patience, but she still didn’t fully trust me. When ...
