Brandon’s Ticket

I asked him if he had worked for that money, and he said, “Yes, I did!” and he stood a little taller. He said, “I worked all year to save up this money to come to camp. I sure did a lot of yard work for this.”

He began counting out the coins and stacking them up; I suggested he keep the quarters and give me the nickels and dimes so his bag would be lighter. He counted out the eight dollars in coins and proudly handed them to me. When I gave him his ticket to the climbing tower, he was smiling ear to ear. He scraped the remaining coins back into the bag, and told me his name was Brandon so I could add his name to the roster.

That afternoon at 2 p.m., Brandon got his long-awaited chance to climb the tower.

I will remember that cute little boy, and how proud he was when he handed me his hard-earned money for his ticket. I knew he would really appreciate his hour at the climbing tower, especially since he had worked and saved and dreamed all year about climbing the tower at WBC.

That is what we do here – allow children like Brandon to have experiences they will remember all year. Each of our staff has a part in making this happen, and so do the many people who support the ministry of WBC. You all helped make a little boy named Brandon very happy. But, I was the one who got to see the joy on this child’s face, and I thought you should know. Thank you for all you do to keep the path clear to the cross at Warm Beach Camp.

I am always excited to get to know a new horse and their personality. However, it didn’t take long to realize this sweet mare harbored a lot of anxiety and worry. I tried to coax her into calmness with gentleness and patience, but she still didn’t fully trust me. When ...
