Body

Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself…

We live in a time where there is intense debate over one’s body and the personal freedoms and responsibilities associated with one’s body. Some laws regarding one’s body and corresponding rights have been considered by the highest court in the land.

As a follower of Jesus, there is a different view of one’s body. The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.

The Temple: Temples are a place of worship, awe and reverence. They are known as a place where one meets with God. Many religions have their own versions of temples. People have a

universal desire to connect with God. Some temples are impressive structures while others are very simply made.

Christianity is the only faith where the place to meet God has moved from a physical place to a physical person. You and I are the temples of God. God lives in us. We are made in His image. The Holy Spirit takes up residency in our lives.

Perspective: With the understanding that we are God’s chosen temple, it causes reflection on what we make our bodies available to. The truth is, our bodies are amazing. Medical science is still unpacking all the wonder that God packed into His temple. Truly incredible!

It is also true that people have found all kinds of ways to give their bodies to ways of living that are destructive. For many, this has been by personal choice.

Encouragement: As a follower of Jesus, understand that He himself came for us by dwelling in Mary’s body during pregnancy. He sent the Holy Spirit to live in us. Take care of your body as the dwelling place of God. Honor Him by taking care of yourself. Give your body to things the honor and please God.

Dear Father,

Thank You for living within us through Your Holy Spirit. Thank You for moving from a building to a person. Thank You for reminding us that we are, in fact, Your dwelling place. Help us to honor and care for the temple made in Your image.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

I am always excited to get to know a new horse and their personality. However, it didn’t take long to realize this sweet mare harbored a lot of anxiety and worry. I tried to coax her into calmness with gentleness and patience, but she still didn’t fully trust me. When ...
