Warm Beach Camp’s ministry is about connecting people with God, one another, and all of creation.

The desires of your heart

If you had told the Gordon family a year ago they would be living and volunteering at Warm Beach Camp, they probably would have laughed at you. The Gordons were living in a comfortable home not far from the Camp. Several years ago, Jamie and Steve started talking about the possibility of taking up R.V. living in Steve’s retirement years. The family, including their daughter Amber, has done lots of camping and always enjoyed it. They felt the desire to ...

They have dedicated much of their liives to the service of the Lord and are impassioned by working with youth and overseas missions, among a long list of other things they have done. But it hasn’t always been like this. Both Steve and Jacque came to know the Lord in their thirties. Prior to salvation both admitted that they were “not the people you see now.” The ...

It’s the volunteers who make it possible!

The 18th year of The Lights of Christmas was as bright as ever! The attendance was the highest ever, with 72,501 people coming to enjoy the festivities. Guests were treated to a new Light Maze, a myriad of food vendors, as well as three indoor eateries. There were five live music stages, plenty of shopping, and all the kids’ favorite activities like train rides, pony rides, and Bruce the Spruce, the talking tree. None of this would have been possible if it weren’t ...

How many volunteers does it take to change a light bulb?

Okay, so it is an old joke. I don’t even know how many it would take, but I would guess one. We have a lot of very talented volunteers! I do know how many volunteers it takes to put on The Lights of Christmas. We need between 120 and 160 each night. There are about 2,750 spots to fill! More than 825 volunteers filled all those jobs last year. That is a lot of volunteers! It takes people serving as ...

Because Life Changes Here.

Looking around the grounds, you can see it; praying for the campers, you can feel it. Life changes here. Sometimes lives change as a result of simply arriving at Warm Beach Camp. For some families, sending their kids to camp is financially and logistically impossible, but impossible situations are where God does His best work. A mom and her teenagers living in a car for the past year; a grandmother desperate to rescue her granddaughter out of a dangerous living ...

Go where God is working

Steve and Karen Nestelroad visited Warm Beach Camp for the first time over 20 years ago when they came to see Karen’s brother, Rod Allen, and his wife, Maggie. Rod and Maggie were, at that time, staff members at Warm Beach. Steve and Karen would volunteer to work alongside Rod and Maggie, and in their free time, they would explore all the wonders that Washington has to offer – the two couples working and playing together.“Coming to Warm Beach was ...

Faithful volunteers keep grounds looking great

Volunteer gardeners Camille McDugald, Jean Bach and Vera Sagan.Have you looked at your yard recently? Did you notice spring is here? Most of us have started up the lawn mower more than once this season, and if you haven’t tended to those flower beds, the weeds have already grown to monstrous proportions. Now, imagine over 200 acres of lawns, flower beds, berm after berm, and forests woven through with miles of trails and you have the scope of grounds keeping ...

New space for special needs campers to learn and grow

After a dramatic realization during a Special Friends Day Camp in 2012 Laurie Fertello, Disabilities Ministries Director, realized the importance of further developing the spiritual ministry of Warm Beach Camp’s Special Friends Day Camps. The program had been growing by leaps and bounds since 2006 and now averaged over 50 campers plus buddies per camp. Laurie was now on a path to help each camper better understand and know Jesus Christ. One problem the Special Friends Day Camp had consistently ...

WILL you be a good steward?

If you are like me, and probably you are, I try very hard to manage my resources. As a Christian, being a good steward of my money and other resources is a spiritual responsibility. I wouldn’t dream of handing that responsibility over to someone else!Yet, many people have not prepared their will. Without a will, the state court will appoint someone to make all the decisions for you, often ignoring your important preferences. Even with a will, your estate will ...

Reaching kids through partnerships

For the past five summers, Warm Beach Camp has partnered with the Myungsung Presbyterian Church in Seoul, South Korea, and they have been sending kids all the way to the U.S. to go to summer youth camp at Warm Beach, a distance of more than 5,000 miles! The government in South Korea mandates that everyone learn to speak English. Christian churches there have been teaching English ...
