On That Day…
“And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day there will be one Lord —his name alone will be worshiped.”- Zechariah 14:9 NLT
All of us have those “on that day…” thoughts. “On that day…” represents a point of arrival in one’s journey. Perhaps it is individual or the work of a community, church, or nation. It can represent a milestone or a brief moment of deferred gratitude come to pass.
The prophet Zechariah is writing about an incredible time when God alone will be recognized. It comes in the midst of great battle and conflict. Jerusalem is being re-established and all the wealth of other nations is being brought to it. Images of the sun and moon no longer shining, yet there is light that shines from God himself.
While parts of this passage are beyond my knowledge, a few things stand out to me:
· God will fight for us when others are fighting against us.
· God will be known as God. No other gods will be left a place of recognition.
· One God will be worshiped. When God shows up in His glory, everyone will worship God. It will be so obvious who God really is.
On that day… I want to be in God’s presence having followed Him with my life. Until that day… I receive God into my life through Jesus Christ. Until that day the Holy Spirit will lead and guide me into all truth. Until that day, the world will proclaim many gods. I will follow God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit with everything I have.
Encouragement: Follow God now, every day. He is the true God. He will be known as the one true God. He will fight of you. He will be worshipped because God is…..
Prayer: Dear Father God, do not let us pretend that we have time to play around with taking You at Your word. You are patient, but You want us to follow You right now. Help us live today in view of the fact that there is a day coming where You alone will be worshipped. On that day… In Jesus name, Amen
