The Earth Has Yielded Its Harvest

So be patient, brethren, [as you wait] till the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits expectantly for the precious harvest from the land. [See how] he keeps up his patient [vigil] over it until it receives the early and late rains. James 5:7 The songbirds welcomed a crew of hearty folks to the Warm Beach Horsemanship pastures as preparations were made to bring in a bountiful hay harvest. Volunteers gathered and created a crew of loaders, lifters, ...

Strength and Power

Photo by Wade Austin Ellis on Unsplash A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Ephesians 6:10 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/eph.6.10.NLT When the words “strength and power” come up in the same sentence what comes to mind? The narrative of culture celebrates it in sports, despises it in politics, mocks it in success, and is concerned when unchecked strength and power shows up. Yet, God speaks of His strength and power in ways that are freely shared ...

Family R&R Weekends

The summer of 2020 is like no other summer in recent history. “Stay at home mom,” “Work from home,” “Mom, I am bored,” “Cabin fever,” “I have to get out of here.” These are all phrases that have new meanings thanks to COVID-19. I think we can all relate to these phrases in one way or another. We all seem to be experiencing a certain level of uncertainty and restlessness, especially for those who have children at home. To help ...

Creating Beauty

I love to garden. Shrubs, flowers, trees – I love the shapes and colors, the textures and fragrances of each one and how they come together to make surprising and unexpected beauty. Being in my garden feeds my soul. But gardens need care – weeding, pruning, dividing, and transplanting occur frequently. It’s part of the deal – part of the joy – at least most of the time. When it comes to pruning and moving and removing, I am often ...

The Generosity and Understanding of Jesus

Photo by Rod Long on Unsplash So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. -Hebrews 4:16 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/heb.4.16.NLT Take time to listen to these words. Read, speak and own them. These words are for you and me. So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us ...

Blessings Big and Small

To see Warm Beach Camp empty at a time of year when it would normally be flooded with guests and campers is an odd sight. The past four months at the Camp have been challenging to say the least. Camp staff have made drastic adjustments at work to adapt to government requirements and the lack of revenue the Camp is experiencing. But, in all of this we have seen God’s blessing and provision every day. The blessings come in big ...

The Power of Community

Volunteers play a key role in the Warm Beach Camp community and have since its beginnings. In 2019 volunteers donated over 40,000 hours of their time to keep the grounds looking beautiful, to help run programs, to maintain the heard for horses, and so much more. Warm Beach Camp volunteers often come intending only to stay for a month or two but end up staying for years. When I ask them why, their reply is, “Because it feels like home.” “I volunteer at ...

Join Us in Prayer

Photo by Pedro Lima on Unsplash Even before Warm Beach Camp sat on the edge of Port Susan Bay, members of the Free Methodist denomination had a tradition of holding tent meetings which included revival prayer. The foundation of Warm Beach Camp was built on prayer and the community continues this tradition to this day. We are navigating an extended period of time where we need the heart of God, the strength of the Holy Spirit, and the grace of ...

Camp Home

I was first introduced to the Warm Beach Camp community 27 years ago. I was managing condominiums in Colorado when I was led by the Holy Spirit to get back into Christian camping. When I flew out to interview for the Horsemanship Director position, I was immediately welcomed by a genuine and loving community. As my wife, Holly, and I sat around a table enjoying a potluck dinner provided by Warm Beach Camp, we felt right at home. We sat ...

Service and Sacrifice

Photo by Thanti Nguyen on Unsplash For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:28 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/mat.20.28.NLT Power and position are such common pursuits in life. Entire systems are built around it. Many times, we don’t even pay attention to it anymore. As a follower of Jesus, we are asked to think about power and position very differently through two words: service ...

God Can Be Trusted

Photo by Jannis Lucas on Unsplash Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Hebrews 10:23 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/heb.10.23.NLT Where trust exists, hope is likely to be nearby. The two work together. Trust gives hope confidence. Hope fuels trust. Hope thrives in relationships that can be trusted. One of the big challenges of today is the issue of “who can be trusted.” There is not one person or system ...

Unexpected Blessings

The sun was shining as three women saddled their horses at the Warm Beach Camp stables, but this ride was not for campers. They had a much different purpose. The ladies mounted their horses and made their way up the hill toward the Warm Beach Senior Community.   The COVID-19 crisis has meant that the Senior Community residents have been quarantined since early March. As for many of us, lock-down has led to feelings of isolation and sadness. The ladies from ...

Who is Carrying You?

Photo by Shwa Hall on Unsplash Praise the Lord; praise God our savior! For each day he carries us in his arms. Psalms 68:19 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/psa.68.19.NLT  When I was kid, there was a popular song titled He ain’t Heavy, He’s my Brother. My sister Susie and I used to sing it for fun and because it spoke to the value of walking through life with each other caring and sharing the challenges that come along our way. If you want ...

We Will Gather Again

It is a time of silence. The chapel is empty. I walked into a lone piano and worshiped with God. I played and praised to an audience of one. As I worshiped the One it was if He himself reminded me… We will Gather Again… My heart soared with hope. Not because of any physical evidence. There are still no people and the end of this Pandemic does not seem to be in site. There is a promise from the ...

Covid19 – 5 Crisis Communication Tips for Nonprofits

Photo by Tai's Captures on Unsplash The past few months have been filled with global change. In a world of quick transient news, narratives spread fast. Users are more involved with news and media content than ever before, often changing a narrative before it’s even published. Nonprofits are especially vulnerable, because their funding often depends on the altruism of their donor base. In order to preserve and protect nonprofits, crisis communication must be considered in brand development. Here are 5 tips to developing effective lines of communication during crisis.  Understand the ...

The Lord’s Heart of Redemption

Photo by Trym Nilsen on Unsplash Over the past week I have been reminded on how broken our world is and how deeply God wants to see the entirety of His creation restored to him. So lets break this into three sections: Brokenness, Restoration and Us. Brokenness We live in a deeply broken world! COVID-19, as terrible as it is, is only a part of that story. To give you an idea: on average 1.2 million children are sold into ...

Brevity

Photo by Julentto Photography on Unsplash Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom. Psalms 90:12 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/psa.90.12.NLT Brevity means, “shortness of time,” and, “concise and exact use of words.” Growing in understanding of both definitions offers help to living every day. Life is short. Even as one hopes for 90 years, placed in the time frames of human history and eternity, it is at its best short. There is a real opportunity ...
