Counting on God

"So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law." Galatians 5:1 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/gal.5.1.NLT There is a subtle challenge for all who seek God through Christ: We begin by faith knowing that God loves, met and saved us. Yet, over time we add back in structures and laws of our own that replace faith with human effort. If we are not careful, we end ...

Cascadian Lodge Renovations Completed

Cascadian Lodge is 57 years old! With many years of service since the last renovation, it was time to update and preserve this lodge for years to come. Renovation work was started on Cascadian Lodge a year and a half ago and was recently completed in June 2019. The renovations were funded through room memorials made by families who wished to commemorate family members and other loved ones while also contributing to the ministry here at Warm Beach Camp ...

The Difference was Fred

“Life changes here”…a phrase you may have heard. This phrase doesn’t just apply to our campers and guests, but also our volunteers and staff. Often volunteers come to Warm Beach Camp to be part of something bigger than themselves, to help with programming, labor and other tasks. Little do they know the experience is often just as life changing for them as it is for the campers they serve. This was exactly the case for Marcus Petterson, “Fred” here ...

Somebody to Lean On

“Sometimes in our lives we all have pain, we all have sorrow.” as the song goes. This can be especially true when difficult circumstances arise in our youth. Children have no control over their circumstance. Everyone is making decisions for them, and it can be hard not to feel isolated, confused, and sad. This was the very situation Ms. Belltower or Puhi (camp name) found herself in just a few short years ago. Puhi’s parents were in the midst ...

Incredible Compassion

"You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate." Luke 6:36 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/luk.6.36.NLT   “I only do this to people I like!” is a phrase I use after teasing someone in a nice way. When I think about the people I love and am in relationship with, it is easy to have fun, play, show love and give care. I think up ways to express gratitude and appreciation. When it comes to people I am in conflict with, that ...

Guard Your Heart

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4:23 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/pro.4.23.NLT The direction of my life is at stake. So is yours. There are many things to do to encourage a good direction in life. Proverbs 4 names several: Listen when your father corrects you, develop good judgement, stay away from evil, value wisdom and don’t turn your back on it, avoid perverse talk and corrupt speech. Proverbs 4 lifts one above all ...

Help is here!

And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groaning that cannot be expressed in words. Romans 8:26 NLT And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. Romans 8:27 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/rom.8.27.NLT It’s ok to say it. “I have weaknesses in my life.” ...

Restoration

Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. Psalms 51:10 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/psa.51.10.NLT Have you ever really blown it? Have you made the kind of mistake that you know is dead wrong. A choice that is very damaging to you and all the people who trust you. And yet, knowing that, you chose to do it anyway. When the reality of these actions has sunk in, there becomes a real desperate crying out, “How does ...

That’s Why…

“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Matthew 6:25 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/mat.6.25.NLT “That’s why…” has kick started many reminders that people often give to each other. See if any of these sound familiar: That’s why you need to brush your teeth. That’s why you need to exercise. That’s why you don’t go over the ...
Refreshed Family Camp at Warm Beach Camp and Conference Center

A Calm, Safe, and Fun Place for Foster and Adoptive Families

Have you been hearing the people around you excitedly saying, "Summer is right around the corner!" For most people, that one statement can invite a host of anticipatory emotions and thoughts. You may find, like me, you don't usually fall into the category of "mos t people." Being an adoptive mom, I find when I hear this phrase spoken, a small unwelcome rumble happens deep inside of me that sounds something like short growls of fear rising up from my ...

God’s Peace Requires Our Focus

“Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/php.4.7.NLT   It’s a challenge to focus on the right things at the right times on any given day. Distractions, competing agendas, and the constant bombardment of streaming information from technology penetrates the ability to stay focused. Some days I feel like life is one big game of “squirrel” and I ...

Refreshment and renewal for foster and adoptive families

The vision for Refreshed Family Camp is clear: Give every foster and adoptive family a “win” together. Refreshed Family Camp is an experience where the love of Jesus is clear. Connect with God around the campfire or through a conversation with a friend. See God’s care in the epic sunsets overlooking Port Susan Bay. Learn about God’s heart through experiential-based teaching. Play hard at camp. Swim, zip line, canoe, shoot arrows, compete in field games, or just take a hike on ...

Child health and development at summer camp

Research shows kids are healthier, learn better, and form lasting friendships when they spend an extended amount of time outside away from technology. Study after study has shown when children are out in nature regularly they are more mentally and physically healthy1. The combination of physical activity and being outdoors is proven to be important to mental, physical, and environmental health. Nature is viewed by scientists and researchers as a fundamental health resource. Being out in nature helps people recover ...

The gift of time

Some of the most important things in life cannot be bought, like time and love. If you want to measure the quality of life, measure the quality and depth of relationships. One of the most treasured relationships are between parents and kids. Both parents and kids desire transparent, loving relationships. In a world saturated with distractions, we are faced with bigger challenges than ever to maintain flourishing relationships. Somebody once said, “Love is spelled, time.” Consider the following acronym for your ...

5 myths about working as a camp counselor

In order to talk about the benefits of working at a summer camp, we must start by debunking some myths people believe about the job. Myth #1: It’s not a “real” job. Truth: Working at a summer camp is mentally and physically demanding. Camp counselors are no longer only responsible for the well-being of themselves, but the well-being of students ranging from 6 years old - 18 years old. Many summer staff work 16 hour days, six days a week, not to mention ...

May 2019 Project Updates

This month’s project update includes many things that both care for existing facilities and contribute to a more hospitable atmosphere for our guests. The main parking area is receiving a series of improvements. Phase one is to re-work the inner, gravel parking with a more visible and intuitive entrance and exit along with clear parking stalls and flower beds. A new and very attractive fence along the first staff house on the right as you enter the grounds has gone ...

Partners in Ministry Dinner

On May 11th Warm Beach Camp hosted its annual Partners in Ministry Dinner. This was a time for Warm Beach Camp to thank its neighbors, financial donors, prayer partners, and volunteers for the significant role they play in the ministry. This was also a time to thank God for continuing to do amazing things at Warm Beach Camp. He is preparing the Camp for the future and our highest goal is to stay in the center of His plans and we ...

Do scholarships matter?

Do scholarships make a difference? A loud, “Yes!” is the answer. As the Program Manager for Everett Gospel Mission’s women and children’s shelter, here is how I have seen camp impact our children through the years with the help of Kids 2 Camp Scholarship fund at Warm Beach Camp. The children and their mothers often are fearful to leave each other for the week. Due to their lives becoming chaotic and unsure, they have come to depend on each other. ...

The long view

“Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.” - Proverbs 22:6 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/pro.22.6.NLT Parenting requires more vision and persistence than anything else I have ever been involved with in my life. As parents we respond to a series of short term moments, many of them immediate (potty training, sharing toys, riding a bike, etc.). As children grow, parents find themselves in more complex situations involving relationships, life choices, and finances. The desire ...
